
Peoples-Jones Named FWAA Freshman All-American

The University of Michigan football team has several strong candidates for 2017 All-America honors, led by defensive tackle Maurice Hurst and linebacker Devin Bush. The NCAA uses the first team All-America honorees from five groups (listed below) to determine the consensus All-America team.

Michigan's 2017 All-America honorees (as of 1/8/2018):
• Credited with a career-best 59 stops on the season, one of three Michigan defensive linemen with 50 or more stops
• Registered single-season career-highs of 5.0 sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss, bringing him to 33.5 career tackles for loss, which is 17th-best at Michigan
• Graded by Pro Football Focus College as the top player in the nation, regardless of position. His 96.9 grade on a 100-point scale is a full 5.4 points better than the person closest to him, the same gap between No. 2 and No. 14 on that list.
• Accepted an invitation to the Reese's Senior Bowl
• Team leader in tackles (94) in 2017, with 35 solo stops
• Career-best 5.0 sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss, with nine pass breakups and one interception
• Dick Butkus Award finalist
• Returned 40 punts for 320 yards as a true freshman, with one touchdown
• Finished with the second-most return attempts and eighth-most return yards in a single season by a Wolverine, and also caught 22 passes for 277 yards
• His 79-yard return for a touchdown against Air Force (Sept. 16) was the longest by any Michigan punt returner since Steve Breaston went 83 yards against Indiana in 2006
• Named Honorable Mention All-Big Ten as a punt returner and won Michigan's Rookie of the Year Award
• Also named a freshman All-American by 247 Sports
