ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 10-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team clinched the doubles point and proceeded to shut out Baylor en route to a 7-0 victory on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 19) at the Varsity Tennis Center.
U-M claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 3 and No. 2. The duo of freshman Chiara Lommer and classmate Valeria Patiuk was a 6-2 winner at No. 3, and the No. 2 pairing of junior Mira Ruder-Hook and sophomore Brienne Minor clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win, improving to 8-1 on the year in dual match play.
Sophomore Kate Fahey improved to 8-0 in singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles. Junior Alex Najarian picked up the Wolverines' third point and put them on the brink of a team victory with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3, and Lommer went on to clinch the team triumph at No. 4 (6-3, 6-0).
Michigan picked up its remaining three points with wins by Minor at No. 2 (6-2, 6-1), Patiuk at No. 6 (6-2, 6-1), and by Ruder-Hook at No. 5 (6-4, 6-3) to seal the sweep.
The Wolverines will take a weekend off and be back in action on March 3, taking on USC in Los Angeles.
