The No. 7-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team (21-3) will attempt to advance to the NCAA Championships by finishing in the top two at the NCAA Morgantown Regional this Saturday (April 1) at 4 p.m.
MEET INFO
Michigan will make its 27th NCAA appearance and 26th under head coach Bev Plocki.
The Wolverines have won 11 NCAA Regionals and advanced to the NCAA semifinals 22 times.
This is the third trip to Morgantown for a NCAA Regional in school history as U-M won in 2013 and placed second in 2010.
Over the years, Michigan has had 63 NCAA Regional event champions, including 12 all-around winners. U-M has had an event champion at NCAA Regionals every year since 2009.
Plocki has connections to the meet, attending Alabama before transferring to West Virginia where she got her physical education degree in 1987.
BIG TEN CHAMPIONS
Michigan won its 23rd Big Ten championship with a score of 197.300 on March 18 in Piscataway, New Jersey. The 23 titles are 10 more than the rest of the Big Ten schools combined.
Seniors Nicole Artz and Talia Chiarelli helped make it four in a row for the Wolverines as they finished 4-for-4 in their college career at Big Tens.
Four individuals won Big Ten titles, including Artz (all-around), Emma McLean (vault), Chiarelli (balance beam) and Olivia Karas (floor).
Plocki has the most championships by any coach in Big Ten history with 22. Larry Cox of Ohio State is second with five.
U-M clinched its third regular-season title in five years with a Big Five Meet victory to finish 8-1 in the conference.
The Wolverines share the title with Nebraska. U-M won the head-to-head meeting earlier this season at home, 197.225-194.800.
Michigan and Minnesota are now tied for the most regular-season titles with the conference recognizing the regular-season champs since 2013.
AAI AWARD FINALIST
Artz was named one of seven finalists for the prestigious AAI Award, given annually to the nation's top senior gymnast.
She is looking to become the third Wolverine to win the award as Kylee Botterman won in 2011 and Beth Wymer in 1995. Michigan is one of six schools to have had multiple winners of the accolade.
REGULAR SEASON ALL-AMERICANS
Three U-M gymnasts earned four NACGC/W Regular Season All-America honors. Artz was first team on floor and second team in the all-around. McLean was second team on vault, and junior Paige Zaziski was second team on uneven bars.
