ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Ani Sarkisian of the University of Michigan women's soccer team recently spent a week training with the U.S. U-23 Women's National Team in Orlando, Florida.
Sarkisian is the first U-M women's soccer player to be involved with the U.S. women's national team at that level since the oldest youth national team moved up to U-23 in 2008 (it was previously U-20 from 1989-1998 and U-21 from 1999-2007).
The Cresskill, New Jersey, native has been elected to represent the Maize and Blue as a second-year captain for the 2017 season. In 2016, she posted six goals and five goals, giving her a total of 17 goals and 20 assists in her three seasons in Ann Arbor. She has earned Big Ten postseason honors in all three seasons -- Big Ten All-Freshman Team (2014), All-Big Ten first team (2015), and All-Big Ten second team (2016).
Following her return from U-23 training camp, MGoBlue.com caught up with Sarkisian to discuss her experience and what she learned from her week in red, white and blue.
