ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 15-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team took the doubles point and swept the singles matches to defeat Aquinas, 7-0, on Sunday (April 9) at the Varsity Tennis Center.
Michigan claimed the doubles point with wins on courts two and one for the 16th time in dual-match play. Runhao Hua and Gabe Tishman took command in the number two doubles match, easing to a 6-0 win. Myles Schalet and Kevin Wong clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 victory on court one. Connor Johnston and Tyler Gardiner were tied at 4-all at No. 3 doubles, before the match was abandoned due to the clinching point.
Alex Knight dominated court one in singles, winning his team-leading ninth straight match with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Tishman tallied another point for Michigan, winning No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-1. Johnston clinched the team match win, taking No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-0. After dropping the first four games of the match, he rallied to win 12 straight games and guarantee the victory for U-M.
Gardiner, Davis Crocker and Carter Lin added three more victories for the Wolverines, completing the sweep of Aquinas.
Michigan will return to the court next Saturday (April 15) against Illinois at 10:30 a.m. at the Varsity Tennis Center.
