
Michigan Assigned to Seattle Regional, Will Open vs. Fresno State

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The University of Michigan softball team earned its 23rd straight -- and 25th overall -- selection to the NCAA Softball Championship and will head to Seattle, Washington, Regional and open play against Fresno State at 6 p.m. PDT on Friday (May 19) at Husky Softball Stadium.
No. 6 Washington will serve as the host school and face Montana at 8:30 p.m. PDT Friday on the other side of the regional bracket. The regional round is a four-team, double-elimination tournament.
The winner of the Seattle Regional will move on to a super regional against the winner of the regional being hosted by Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah. That regional consists of No. 11 overall seed Utah, BYU, Mississippi State and Fordham. The super regional is a best-of-three format with the winner advancing to the eight-team Women's College World Series, scheduled for June 1-7 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Michigan is making its 25th NCAA Tournament appearance (1992-93, '95-2017) and has earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament every season since 1995. It just the fifth time in program history that U-M will play a regional round on the road. The Wolverines are 79-13 all-time in the NCAA Regional round and have won 18 regional titles. Last season, U-M swept through its regional and super regional opposition en route to its 12th WCWS appearance.
