ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Hot off a trip to the NCAA Tournament with the program's first at-large postseason bid since 2008, the University of Michigan baseball team has kicked off fall training.
Highlighted by intra-squad competition, a trip to the Dominican Republic and training to increase mental toughness, the schedule runs from September to early December. Â
"We're looking forward to an exciting and eventful fall," said head coach Erik Bakich. "As in years past, we attempt to create a training environment that challenges our student-athletes physically and mentally to prepare for the upcoming season. The goal is to simply get better every day, even if only by one percent. More importantly, the foundational skills and character traits we teach will help our players grow as men and future leaders, in addition to being successful student-athletes."
Following just over a month of strength and conditioning as well as team and individual training sessions, the Wolverines will spend their fall break (Oct. 14-17) in the Dominican Republic. While there, Michigan will compete against local teams and spend time doing community service.
Upon the return to campus, Michigan will host its annual Ann Arbor Regional (Oct. 20-22) and Ann Arbor Super Regional (Oct. 27-29), which mimics the NCAA postseason schedule.
In addition to baseball skills training, Bakich and his staff will host a variety of mental toughness trainings throughout the fall season. The Wolverines will compete in the Murph Challenge in mid-November as well as the Omaha Challenge from late November to early December.
"This will be the 152nd Michigan Baseball team," added Bakich, "so it is paramount to strengthen our culture and build an identity for this particular team so that we can keep making positive strides and add as much value possible to an already rich and storied program."
The Wolverines will also host their annual Halloween Batting Practice (Oct. 31), which is open to fans and youth.
