Seven Wolverines Named NFCA Scholar Athletes for 2017-18

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Seven members of the University of Michigan softball team earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2017-18 academic year, the organization announced.
Individual honorees include 2018 seniors Aidan Falk, Taylor Swearingen, Amanda Vargas and Nikki Wald and current seniors Katie Alexander, Natalie Peters and Alex Sobczak. Swearingen and Wald both claimed the accolade for the third time in their collegiate careers, while Sobczak earned it for the second straight year.
Players named NFCA scholar athletes must have attained a minimum overall grade-point average of 3.50 over the fall 2017 and winter 2018 semesters.
The NFCA recognition complete the academic honors for Michigan's 2018 squad. Peters, Swearingen, Vargas and Wald were also named Big Ten Conference Distinguished Scholars and nine total Wolverines were named Academic All-Big Ten.
Swearingen, who will graduate next spring with a business administration degree from the Ross School of Business, was the recipient of the team's Leo and Edna Drewett Academic Award, which honors the Wolverine softball player with the top cumulative GPA. She was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and four-time U-M Athletic Academic Achievement Award recipient during her career.
