ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan wrestling head coach Sean Bormet announced Tuesday (Nov. 20) that four student-athletes -- Cameron Amine, Noah Comar, Cole Mattin and Kurt McHenry -- have signed National Letters of Intent to attend Michigan and compete in wrestling next fall. It is the first recruiting class for Bormet as head coach.
"We're really excited about this class," said Bormet. "They help fill some specific roster needs. They are high-quality young men who have relentless work ethics and high aspirations both on and off the mat. They love to compete, wrestle an exciting style, and our fans will really enjoy watching them. Best of all, they all love Michigan and can't wait to get to Ann Arbor. We can't wait either. We think it's a great class, and we're not finished with it yet."
Amine, a native of Brighton, Michigan, is ranked No. 4 nationally at 152 pounds and as the No. 19 overall recruit by Flowrestling and No. 32 recruit by InterMat. He is a two-time Michigan state champion for Detroit Catholic Central High School, capturing titles at 125 pounds as a freshman (2016) and 145 pounds as a sophomore (2017), and a three-time state finalist. He owns a 127-15 career prep record. He will be the sixth Amine to wrestle for Michigan, joining his father Sam (1988-90), brother Jordan (2014-18), uncle Mike (1986-89) and cousins Malik and Myles, who are both current members of the Wolverine team. He is projected to compete at 157 or 165 pounds in college.
Comar, a native of Adrian, Michigan, captured a 2017 Michigan state title at 112 pounds and is a three-time state finalist at Clinton High School, most recently at 125 pounds last season. Named the 2017 Lenawee County Wrestler of the Year, Comar owns a stellar 165-7 career prep record. He will likely wrestle 133 pounds at Michigan.
Mattin, a native of Delta, Ohio, is ranked No. 20 nationally at 132 pounds and as the No. 86 overall recruit by Flowrestling. He captured a 126-pound Ohio state title last season (2018) and is a three-time state placewinner, also claiming fourth and sixth place as a freshman and sophomore, respectively. He owns a 123-15 career prep record. His older brother, Drew, is a current member of the Michigan wrestling team. Mattin is projected to wrestle at 141 or 149 pounds in college.
McHenry, a native of Leesburg, Virginia, is ranked No. 2 nationally at 120 pounds and as the No. 3 overall recruit by both Flowrestling and InterMat. He is a two-time Cadet world champion (2016, '17) -- just the third American ever to win two Cadet world titles -- at 46kg/101 pounds. He is a three-time Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) state champion for St. Paul's School and won titles at the prominent Beast of the East and Powerade tournaments. He boasts a 122-5 career prep record. McHenry will wrestle at 125 pounds at Michigan.
Michigan has one additional commitment that cannot be announced publicly due to NCAA rules, and U-M could expand its incoming class with additional members in the upcoming months.
