• Today's matchup marked the 22nd all-time meeting between U-M and Penn State. Michigan owns a 14-8 record in the series.
• Michigan has won three in a row in this series at Michigan Stadium and eight of the last 11 at home.
• Michigan's average of 34:17 time of possession per game was exceeded with 37:56 in today's matchup.
• Seven of the eight opponents U-M has faced so far have been held to their season low in total offense. The Wolverines defense yielded their second-lowest total yards this season, allowing just 186 yards, second only to the 94 vs. Michigan State in the previous game.
• Michigan held Penn State to just 77 yards in the first half, marking an FBS-best eighth time allowing less than 100 yards in a half this season.
• Michigan is 34-0 when rushing for 125 yards or more under coach Jim Harbaugh.
• U-M running back Karan Higdon has seven consecutive 100-yard rushing efforts, including all six Big Ten matchups. Higdon's seven consecutive 100-yard games put him one short of Mike Hart's school record (eight games, 2007 season). Higdon finished the day with 132 yards and one touchdown.
• Michigan is 12-0 when Higdon hits 100 rushing yards in his career.
• Sophomore wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones had his seventh receiving touchdown of the year late in the second quarter, making it his third touchdown reception of his past four games. Peoples-Jones is tied for second in most single-season receiving touchdowns under Harbaugh, trailing Jehu Chesson (9) and tied with Amara Darboh (7).
• Junior quarterback Shea Patterson had his fourth three-touchdown game of the season, throwing for two TDs and running for another.
• Sophomore quarterback Dylan McCaffrey entered the game late in the fourth quarter and rushed for 14 yards.
• Senior tight end Zach Gentry has had at least one reception in 13 consecutive matchups. Late in the third quarter, Gentry scored a touchdown that gave Michigan a 21-0 lead.
• Fifth-year senior cornerback Brandon Watson intercepted the ball for a pick-six late in the third quarter. This is Watson's second pick-six of the season (first was vs. Maryland) and third interception of his career. This is the Wolverines' fourth pick-six of the season, which is tied for the most in FBS.
• Watson is just the fourth player in program history with two or more interceptions returned for touchdowns, joining Lavert Hill (2017-18), Thom Darden (1969-71) and Lance Dottin (1989-91). Only Watson (2018) and Darden (1971) accomplished the feat in a single season.
• Junior defensive back David Long had his first interception of the season in the fourth quarter. This is the third interception of his career.
• Fifth-year senior defensive lineman Chase Winovich's second-quarter fumble recovery was the third of his career and the first of the season. It is the first defensive fumble recovered by U-M this year. Michigan has recovered two other fumbles (Ambry Thomas vs. Nebraska, Joe Hewlett vs. Michigan State) with its punt return unit.
• Winovich earned 1.0 tackles for loss against the Nittany Lions and leads the Wolverine defense with 12.0 TFLs this season.
• Penn State converted a third-and-one opportunity with fewer than three minutes to go in the first half. That was the first third-down conversion by any U-M opponent since Wisconsin converted a late fourth-quarter chance on Oct. 13, a streak of 16 consecutive third-down stops for the Michigan defense (Michigan State was 0-for-12).
• Linebacker Josh Uche recorded two first-half sacks, bringing him to a team-leading 7.0 sacks on just 12 total tackles.
• Defensive lineman Rashan Gary returned to action, playing for the first time since he competed at Northwestern (Sept. 29). Gary finished the day with two tackles (one solo and one assist).
• Today's honorary captains were alumni Bryan and Kathleen Marshall and former U-M basketball star and Fab Five member Chris Webber.
