
Skjodt, Lerg Earn AVCA All-America Recognition

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- University of Michigan senior outside hitter Carly Skjodt was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America Second Team, while senior libero Jenna Lerg received an All-America Honorable Mention, it was announced Wednesday (Dec. 12).
The All-America honor is Skjodt's second, as she was named to the AVCA All-America Third Team at the close of the 2017 season, and a first for Lerg. Last week, both students were named to the AVCA All-North Region team.
A senior from Indianapolis, Indiana, Skjodt capped off a stellar senior season with a unanimous 2018 All-Big Ten Conference first-team selection to go with her AVCA All-Region and All-America recognition. She led the Wolverines in kills (4.20/set) and finished second in digs (2.61/set), while also posting a team-leading 12 kill-dig double-doubles and a team-best seven 20-plus kill performances. She started all 34 matches as an outside hitter and played every rotation for the Wolverines.
Skjodt earned three Big Ten Player of the Week selections during the 2018 campaign and was one of seven unanimous selections to the 14-player preseason All-Big Ten team. Additionally, she was named the MVP of the Michigan Invitational Tournament and earned a selection to the War Eagle Invitational All-Tournament team. Skjodt was also a CoSIDA Academic All-District first-team selection for the second straight year and was selected as a candidate for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award.
Through four seasons with the Maize and Blue, Skjodt totaled six Big Ten Player of the Week awards and four all-tournament team selections. She ranks seventh in program history with 1,395 career kills and fourth with 4,102 attack attempts.
A native of Farmington Hills, Michigan, Lerg finished her senior season with a 2018 All-Big Ten Conference second-team selection before receiving her first career All-North Region honor. She led Michigan and finished second in the Big Ten with 4.89 digs per set, and posted digs in double figures 29 times. Lerg also led Michigan in digs 27 times, including a team-best 17 digs in a Sweet 16 match against No. 5-ranked Texas (Dec. 7), and recorded 20 or more digs in 11 matches. She started and played all 34 contests as Michigan's libero.
Lerg captured two Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week selections during the 2018 regular season and was named the MVP of the War Eagle Invitational Tournament. She was also named to the Michigan Invitational All-Tournament team and was a CoSIDA Academic All-District second-team selection for the second straight year.
Through four strong seasons with the Wolverines, Lerg picked up seven all-tournament team selections as well as four Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors. She ranks second in Michigan history with 1,964 career digs and holds the record for digs in an NCAA Tournament match (30), which she broke in 2015 and tied in 2016.
Both Skjodt and Lerg are also three-time Academic All-Big Ten selections and Big Ten Conference Distinguished Scholars.
Michigan made its 18th trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2018 behind its 13th 20-win season under head coach Mark Rosen. The Wolverines ultimately fell to No. 5-ranked Texas in the NCAA Regional at BYU, which marked the program's seventh Sweet 16 appearance.
