
Michigan Trio Receives All-Region Accolades

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Junior Jack Hallahan (first team), senior Robbie Mertz (second team) and senior Marcello Borges (third team) of the University of Michigan men's soccer team were named United Soccer Coaches All-North Region selections on Wednesday (Dec. 5).
Hallahan (Redditch, England) is an All-Region selection for the second consecutive year, earning second-team honors as a sophomore last season. He was named the 2018 Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year and was a unanimous All-Big Ten (first team), accumulating 24 points on eight goals and eight assists. For his efforts, he was recently named one of the 15 semifinalists for the MAC Hermann Trophy, given annually to the nation's top soccer player. Hallahan is the seventh player in program history to be first team All-Region, and first since Tyler Arnone in 2013.
Mertz (Pittsburgh, Pa.) is an All-Region selection for the second consecutive year, earning third-team honors as a junior last season. He played in 76 matches (55 starts) over his four-year career, scoring nine goals and issuing 12 assists. A two-year team captain, Mertz started all 21 matches in 2018, tallying two goals and four assists. He was voted one of the 10 finalists for the 2018 Senior CLASS Award.
Borges (Kearny, N.J.) is an All-Region selection for the first time. He is a two-time All-Big Ten selection, earning second-team honors each of the past two years. Borges played in 61 matches (50 starts) in his four-year career at Michigan. He started 17 matches in 2018, helping the Michigan defense set a school record for fewest goals allowed in a single season (18 in 21 matches).
U-M went 12-5-4 in 2018, tied for third in the Big Ten and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
