
Hughes Joins Michigan Football Team as Graduate Transfer

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan football program announced Tuesday (Feb. 6) the addition of defensive back Casey Hughes as a graduate transfer from the University of Utah. Hughes will graduate this spring with a degree in sociology.
Hughes played 29 games for the Utes, collecting 41 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, one sack, three forced fumbles and one pass breakup. In the classroom, Hughes was a three-time honorable mention Pac-12 Conference All-Academic (2015, '16, '17).
Hughes played primarily on special teams during his first two seasons (2015-16) before earning a starting cornerback role in 2017. He started 11 games at cornerback in 2017, amassing 35 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, one sack, two forced fumbles and one pass breakup. Hughes had six-tackle efforts against Arizona, UCLA and Washington State, with his two forced fumbles coming against the Wildcats.
A native of North Las Vegas, Nevada, Hughes played at Legacy High School coached by Dave Snyder. He earned first-team all-state honors at cornerback and second-team accolades at running back as a senior. Hughes recorded 68 tackles, one interception and four pass breakups as a senior and ran for more than a 1,000 yards in each of his final two seasons of high school football.
