KALIX, Sweden -- Former University of Michigan women's soccer team member Ani Sarkisian, a December 2017 U-M graduate, signed a professional soccer contract to continue her playing career with ASSI IF in Sweden, the organization announced today (Friday, March 16). The team is part of the Elitettan league and is located in Kalix, Sweden.
"I'm extremely excited to take on the next level in Sweden and am forever grateful to Michigan for preparing me to pursue this dream," said Sarkisian.
The Cresskill, New Jersey, native started all 75 games she played in her Michigan career and was a two-time team captain. She played in 75 of 79 possible games in her career, starting 70 consecutive games from the start of her freshman season through midway through senior year, when injury held her out for four games.
Sarkisian finished her career with 59 points on 19 goals and 21 assists, with her assist total ranking fifth all-time at Michigan. She was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team in 2014, the All-Big Ten first team in 2015 and the All-Big Ten second team in 2016.
Sarkisian is one of three former Wolverines in the past four years to play professionally in Sweden, joining Meghan Toohey (Kvarnsveden) and Shelina Zadorsky (Vittsjö GIK).
