A three-year letterwinner, Hurst has contributed 134 tackles, 33.0 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, two pass breakups and one blocked field goal.
Hurst was a 2017 All-Big Ten athlete, earning consensus first-team honors from the coaches and media. He was also a 2017 consensus All-American and was named as a semifinalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award, given to the nation's most outstanding defensive player. Additionally, Hurst was recognized as a Pro Football Focus College All-American and All-Big Ten honoree with the highest grade of any individual player at any position in the country (96.9 on a 100-point scale). He was an Academic All-Big Ten honoree for four consecutive seasons (2014-17).
As a fifth-year senior, Hurst started all 13 games and finished 2017 with 61 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss and five sacks. Hurst set career highs in tackles (10), solo tackles (six) and tackles for loss (3.5) against Michigan State (Oct. 7). He was voted the Bo Schembechler Most Valuable Player by his teammates, as well as the Defensive Player of the Year.
A native of Westwood, Massachusetts, Hurst appeared in 46 games along the defensive line, with 17 starts at defensive tackle. Hurst earned his bachelor's degree in sport management and has begun studies towards his masters degree from the School of Social Work in management of human services.
