Jayce Vancena (May 14)
Big Ten Pitcher of the Week -- Senior right-handed pitcher Jayce Vancena earned his first Big Ten weekly award after picking up two wins last week. The righty tossed a career-high 6.1 scoreless innings of relief at Michigan State on Wednesday (May 9), scattering just four hits and striking out four in the effort. The Millbury, Ohio, native returned to the mound in relief on Sunday (May 13) against Illinois, throwing two scoreless frames in extra innings to propel Michigan to a 5-4 victory in its final home game of the season. » Big Ten Release
Jordan Nwogu (May 14)
Big Ten Freshman of the Week -- Freshman outfielder Jordan Nwogu was named the Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week after helping Michigan to three wins last week, including non-conference victories at Central Michigan (May 8), at Michigan State (May 9) and at home against Big Ten opponent Illinois (May 13). The freshman led the Wolverines in multiple offensive categories for the week, including hits (nine), RBI (six), and runs scored (five), as he posted a .529 batting average to go with a 1.235 slugging percentage and .606 on-base percentage. » Big Ten Release
Jonathan Engelmann (April 23)
Big Ten Player of the Week -- Junior outfielder Jonathan Engelmann was named the Big Ten Conference Player of the Week after leading the Wolverines to a weekend sweep of Penn State and their 20th straight win. Engelmann ended the week with a team-leading .545 batting average and a .909 slugging percentage over three games that included six hits, six RBI and six runs scored. The junior from San Mateo, California, recorded a hit in every game and finished the weekend with two extra-base hits -- a double and a home run. » Big Ten Release
Jesse Franklin (April 23)
Big Ten Freshman of the Week -- Freshman Jesse Franklin earned his third Big Ten recognition as he was named the Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week for the second week in a row. The Seattle, Washington, native helped the Wolverines to a weekend sweep of Penn State and their 11th straight Big Ten win with a .385 average and a team-leading .923 slugging that included a double and two homers. The freshman picked up a hit in all three games and finished the weekend with seven RBI and seven runs scored. » Big Ten Release
Jesse Franklin (April 16)
Big Ten Co-Player/Freshman of the Week -- Freshman Jesse Franklin earned his second Big Ten recognition as he was named the Big Ten Conference co-Player and Freshman of the Week. The Seattle, Washington, native helped the Wolverines go 2-0 on the weekend and extend their win streak to 17 games with a two-game series sweep of Maryland. Franklin posted a .625 batting average and a 1.750 slugging percentage through the two contests and totaled a team-leading five hits, which included three doubles and two home runs. Jesse Franklin (April 2)
Big Ten Freshman of the Week -- Freshman Jesse Franklin earned his first conference honor as he was named the Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week. Franklin helped the Wolverines to a 4-0 week that included a midweek win over Central Michigan and a series sweep of Delaware, which marked the Wolverines' third straight sweep and 12th straight victory. The freshman from Seattle, Washington, ended the week with a .500 batting average, and a .938 slugging percentage that included a double and two home runs. In addition to a team-leading eight hits and seven RBI, he also knocked in the game-winning runs on both Wednesday (March 28) and Sunday (April 1).
Jonathan Engelmann (March 26)
Big Ten Co-Player of the Week -- Junior outfielder Jonathan Engelmann was named the Big Ten Conference co-Player of the Week after leading the Wolverines to midweek wins over Oakland and Western Michigan, as well as a series sweep of Michigan State to kick off Big Ten action. Engelmann ended the week with a .429 batting average over six games that included nine hits, two homers and 13 runs batted in. The junior had a career performance on Friday (March 23) in the Big Ten Conference opener, going 4-for-5 with a double, a triple and two home runs to come up just shy of hitting for the cycle. Engelmann recorded a hit in all but one game, but scored the go-ahead run in his only hitless effort -- a come-from-behind victory at MSU on Saturday (March 24). The conference honor is the first of his career, and he shares the award with Bren Spillane from Illinois. » Big Ten Release
Jordan Nwogu (March 19)
Big Ten Freshman of the Week -- Freshman outfielder Jordan Nwogu earned his first conference honor after being named the Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week. Nwogu helped lead the Wolverines to their first series sweep over the weekend (March 16-18), clinching three-straight wins over Bowling Green to improve to 3-1 at home. The freshman from Ann Arbor, Michigan, ended the week with an impressive .636 batting average, 1.092 slugging percentage, eight RBI, two doubles and a home run after registering multiple hits in all three contests. Additionally, he helped lead Michigan to its 8-6 win on Saturday (March 17) by scoring from second base on a sacrifice bunt to give the Wolverines their eighth and final run. » Big Ten Release
Karl Kauffmann (March 6)
Big Ten Pitcher of the Week -- Sophomore right-handed pitcher Karl Kauffmann earned his first Big Ten weekly honor after leading the Wolverines to a 5-0 victory over No. 8-ranked Stanford last Saturday (March 3) in the second game of a doubleheader. He threw a career-high 6.2 innings in his third career start and held the Cardinal to just three hits while striking out a career-high 10 batters to earn the victory. The shutout marked Stanford's first loss of the season and snapped a 10-game Cardinal win streak.
