ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan wrestling head coach Sean Bormet announced today (Wednesday, May 2) the addition of transfer Kanen Storr to the Wolverine program. Storr, who spent his first two seasons at Iowa State, will be a redshirt sophomore in 2018-19 and will be immediately eligible to compete for the Wolverines.
"Our staff is thrilled about Kanen joining our team," said Bormet. "He is very passionate about wrestling and loves to compete. We have known Kanen for several years here in Michigan and know his family well. We believe in his ability and potential on the mat and know we are getting a high-character student-athlete."
Storr posted a 40-12 record at 141 pounds over his two seasons at Iowa State, including a 15-7 record in his first year in the starting lineup in 2017-18 -- during which he was ranked as high as 11th nationally by Flowrestling. He placed in several tournaments, including a fifth-place finish at the 2016 Midlands Championships and an eighth-place effort at the 2017 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. Storr also finished runner-up at the 2017 Dave Schultz Memorial International and was the top American finisher at his weight class.
Storr, a native of Leslie, Michigan, was a three-time Michigan state champion and four-time state finalist at Leslie High School. He posted a 227-3 record over his prep career, including a 58-0 senior season. He was a Fargo freestyle finalist and three-time Fargo All-American and placed three times at the UWW Cadet and Junior national tournaments, also claiming second at the Cadet Pan-American Championships. He was ranked as the No. 37 recruit in the class of 2016 by Flo.
Storr's older brother, Zehlin Storr, was a member of the Michigan wrestling team from 2014-17.
