LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- University of Michigan freshman left-handed pitcher Meghan Beaubien was named one of three finalists for the 2018 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year award, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced Wednesday (May 23). Oklahoma's Jocelyn Alo and Arkansas' Mary Haff are the other finalists for the 2018 award.
Beaubien, who was named the Big Ten's Pitcher and Freshman of the Year, is the first Wolverine to make the final-three cut in the five-year history of the top freshman award. Right-handed pitcher Megan Betsa was previously named a top-10 finalist in 2014.
Beaubien led the Wolverines this season with a 33-6 record, 1.16 earned-run average, 266 strikeouts and a .135 opponent batting average. Her 33 wins lead the nation and share the fourth spot among U-M's single-season leaders. Beaubien also ranks fifth nationally with 3.26 hits allowed per seven innings and sixth with 12 complete-game shutouts.
The Wolverine rookie tossed three no-hitters, including one in her first collegiate start against Georgia State, and combined on a fourth. She also garnered unanimous All-Big Ten first team and NFCA All-Great Lakes Region first team honors.
The winner will be honored on Wednesday, May 29, at the 2018 NCAA Women's College World Series banquet in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
