COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Incoming freshman Naz Hillmon of the University of Michigan women's basketball team was one of 12 athletes named to the USA Basketball U18 Team after participating in a three-day trials event this past weekend (May 26-28).
Hillmon was making her second appearance at USA Basketball trials after being a finalist for the U17 team in 2016. As a senior at Gilmour Academy in Cleveland, Ohio, Hillmon averaged 21 points, 14 rebounds, 2.7 and 2.0 steals per game in helping her team to the state final. She was named to the All-USA Ohio first team by USA Today and graduates as her school's all-time leading scorer. She was the Ohio Division II Player of the Year for the second straight season, sharing the award this year.
Hillmon joins head coach Kim Barnes Arico as current members of the Michigan women's basketball program with USA Basketball experience. Barnes Arico served as an assistant coach for the U18 and U19 teams in 2014 and 2015.
The team members will return to Colorado Springs for training camp on July 20, before the team departs for the 2018 FIBA Americas U18 Championship, which will be held Aug. 1-7 at a location still to be announced. The top four finishing teams at the championship will earn qualifying berths into next summer's 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup.
Athletes eligible for this team must be U.S. citizens who are 18 years old or younger (born on or after Jan. 1, 2000).
