ANN ARBOR -- The American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) announced the 2017-18 Krampade All American Scholars and three University of Michigan ice hockey members were recognized. Freshman Jack Becker joined redshirt sophomore Luke Morgan and junior goaltender Chad Catt as three of the 501 Division I men and women who were recognized for academic excellence.
The Krampade All American Scholars is awarded to varsity ice hockey players who attained a 3.6 grade-point average or better each semester of the academic year and participated in at least 40 percent of their school's games. A small number of waivers were granted due to injury and for backup goaltenders.
Becker appeared in 33 games for the Maize and Blue in his freshman season, tallying 15 points with eight goals and seven assists. Morgan sat out the 2017-18 season after transferring from Lake Superior State University, having to sit one season due to NCAA transfer rules. Catt served as a backup goaltender during his junior season, while being awarded Academic All-Big Ten and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honors.
