IRVINE, Calif. -- Current, former and new University of Michigan men's and women's swimmers were in action at the 2018 Phillips 66 National Championships, held last week (July 25-29) at the William Woollett, Jr. Aquatic Center.
The best swimmers in the nation competed for national titles, as well as the right to represent Team USA at the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships (held Aug. 9-12 in Tokyo) and at the 2019 FINA World Championships. Per USA Swimming, the winner of each Olympic event automatically qualified for Pan Pacs. The roster for the World Championships will be determined based on the combined results of the Phillips 66 National Championships and the Pan Pacific Championships.
Recent graduate Gabby DeLoof (2015-18), one of the three captains on last year's women's swimming and diving team, was chosen to Team USA's roster after finishing third in the 200-meter freestyle. Based on the results at Nationals, DeLoof will swim on the 800-meter freestyle relay team in Tokyo alongside U.S. Olympic medalists Katie Ledecky, Allison Schmitt and Leah Smith.
That's a BRONZE for @gmdeloof in the 200m FR, cementing her spot to represent @USASwimming at Pan Pacs in Tokyo! Way to go, Gabby! #GoBlue
