ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Junior Charlie Swanson of the University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team has been named to the 2018-19 U.S. National Team, per an announcement from USA Swimming on Tuesday (Sept. 4). He was selected in the 400-yard IM, an event in which he took sixth in at the Phillips 66 National Championships earlier this summer.
This is Swanson's fourth consecutive year on the U.S. National Team and second consecutive year on the senior team. He was a member of the Junior National Team in 2015-16 and 2016-17. A native of Richmond, Virginia , Swanson repeated as Big Ten champion in the 400-yard IM as a sophomore and was an All-American in the same event at the NCAA Championships, finishing sixth.
The National Team is comprised of the top six swimmers in each individual Olympic event based off the combined results of the 2018 Phillips 66 National Championships, 2018 Pan Pacific Championships and 2018 Junior Pan Pacific Championships. With the selection, Swanson is eligible to be chosen to represent USA Swimming at upcoming international competitions.
Sierra Schmidt and alum Gabby DeLoof from the women's swimming and diving team join Swanson on the 2018-19 National Team.
