The 2019 Big House 5K: Trail to the Victors presented by Toyota on Sunday, April 7, will benefit six local, non-profit organizations selected based on the support they provide to our Washtenaw County community in key areas like housing, healthcare, the arts, youth programming and social services. In the weeks leading up to the race, MGoBlue.com will share stories from people inspired to participate this year because of one of the beneficiaries.

Hi! I'm Lottie Ferguson and I am running the Big House 5K in support of Child Care Network.
One of the biggest decisions any parent will make is where they will send their children for day care. Returning to work after five years of being at home, I relied on the careful research and rating system provided by Child Care Network in making a decision on who would care for my daughters when I decided to return to the workforce. Child Care Network was able to provide my family with a comprehensive list of both home-based and center-based child care providers, and offered stipends to help my family meet the costs of high-quality child care.
Child Care Network understands that parents are a child's first teacher and offers educational materials for our family or child care professionals to check out, so we can continue the learning at home. This service has been invaluable as we introduce our children to literacy, mathematics, science and more.
Running is one of the activities I choose to do to help me stay in shape and it gives me some time alone to think. As a graduate of the University of Michigan, any time spent inside the Big House is a good time; raising money to help connect families with resources that help them protect and nurture the thing most important in their lives is truly an honor.
About Child Care Network

Child Care Network's mission is to promote the success of children, families, and our community through quality child care education, advocacy, and family support. Child Care Network staff work to achieve the mission by helping families find child care, helping families pay for child care, and helping early learning professionals provide quality child care.
We do this through two main programs. The first is the Family Support Program, which helps high needs families access high-quality child care through financial assistance scholarships. The second is the Great Start to Quality Resource Center, which offers training, consultation, and resources to early learning professionals to improve the quality of care they provide to children.
