LINCOLN, Neb. -- The University of Michigan volleyball team fell to No. 5-ranked Nebraska in three sets (21-25, 22-25, 14-25) Sunday (Oct. 13) on the road at Devaney Sports Center.
The loss dropped Michigan to 12-4 overall and 5-1 in the Big Ten.
Sophomore Paige Jones and fifth-year senior Cori Crocker each finished with seven kills on the day to lead the Wolverine offense. Defensively, U-M had two players reach double figures in digs as Jones and senior Sydney Wetterstrom each had 10.
The Wolverines found themselves in an early hole when they dropped the first set, 25-21. Nebraska grabbed the advantage for good at 19-18 in a set that was knotted up four times before the Cornhuskers took over in the second half of the stanza.
Michigan fell in the second set, 25-22, and fell into a 2-0 deficit in the match. The Wolverines battled back from a seven-point hole at 16-9, but Nebraska held on to take the set.
U-M could not mount a rally and lost set three, 25-14. The Wolverines fell behind on the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way, but Nebraska finished off the match.
The Wolverines will return home for the first time since Sept. 29 when they take on No. 8 Penn State on Friday (Oct. 18) at 7 p.m. inside Crisler Center.
