ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan volleyball team jumped out to a first-set advantage, but ultimately fell in four sets (26-24, 16-25, 15-25, 16-25) to No. 6 Wisconsin on Sunday (Oct. 27) at Cliff Keen Arena.
The loss dropped Michigan's record to 13-7 overall and 6-4 in Big Ten play.
Sophomore Paige Jones notched her second straight match of 20 kills or more, leading all players with 21. Senior Sydney Wetterstrom notched a double-double of 10 kills and 16 digs, which led the Wolverine defense. Senior MacKenzi Welsh dished out 45 assists in the match to go along with six digs and four kills.
U-M jumped out to an early lead thanks to a strong attack from Jones and freshman Jess Robinson. With the first set tied at 11, the Wolverines jumped ahead thanks to a 6-1 run behind three kills from Jones and two from Robinson. Michigan held on to win an exciting first set, 26-24.
The Badgers rebounded in the second and third sets, as the Wolverines fell behind early in the second and fell, 25-16, and came out on the short end of a 25-15 final in the third.
Michigan played Wisconsin tight to start the decisive fourth set, with U-M leading, 14-13. The Badgers went on a 9-0 scoring run to distance themselves from the Wolverines and put the match out of reach.
Michigan will start a two-match road swing at No. 17 Illinois on Friday (Nov. 1) at 7:30 p.m. CDT in Champaign.
