Four .500 Hitters Help Wolverines Storm Past Hoosiers on Senior Night

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Seniors Sydney Wetterstrom and Katarina Glavinic combined for 33 kills to help propel the No. 22 University of Michigan volleyball team to a 3-1 win (25-12, 23-25, 25-19, 25-23) over Indiana Friday (Nov. 29) on Senior Night at Cliff Keen Arena.
Wetterstrom paced the Wolverines with a season-best 20 kills to go along with a career-high .563 attack percentage. Glavinic added a season-best 13 kills and also set a person high in attack percentage with a .545 mark. Fellow senior MacKenzi Welsh dished out 55 assists and added three blocks, while fifth-year senior Cori Crocker finished the night with nine kills and a .500 attack percentage.
Michigan's underclassmen chipped in as well, as sophomore Paige Jones registered a double-double of 12 kills and 11 digs. Freshman Jess Robinson added 11 kills with a .529 attack percentage and registered six blocks. Junior Natalie Smith also had 11 digs to help out defensively.
The win improved the Wolverines' record to 20-10 overall and 13-7 in Big Ten action. The 13 conference wins tie the 1997 team's Michigan program record for Big Ten wins in a season.
U-M grabbed control of the match early, jumping ahead at the first point and holding the lead the rest of the way to secure the first set, 25-12. Michigan totaled 15 kills without an attack error for a .625 attack percentage.
The Wolverines came out sluggish in the second set, falling behind by as many as seven before slowly climbing back into the set. Ultimately, Michigan dropped the second set, 25-23, to even the match despite a strong performance on the attacking side. Michigan registered a .359 attack percentage with 19 kills in the set loss.
The Wolverines put the second-set loss behind them and took a 2-1 match lead with a 25-19 win in set three. Michigan collected 20 kills and hit an eye-popping .500 along the way.
Michigan kept the momentum going, earning the match win with a 25-23 fourth-set victory. The Hoosiers led 16-12 until Michigan went on a 6-0 run with Jones at the serve to seize the advantage at 18-16. A Glavinic kill put a bow on the match.
Michigan now awaits its fate for the 2019 postseason. The NCAA Selection Show will be aired on ESPNU Sunday (Dec. 1) at 8:30 p.m. as the Wolverines hope to secure an at-large bid.
