NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Senior Jack Hallahan of the University of Michigan men's soccer team has been invited to participate in the 2019 adidas MLS College Showcase this Friday through Sunday (Dec. 13-15) in Raleigh, North Carolina, Major League Soccer (MLS) announced Thursday (Dec. 12). The Showcase is a closed-door scouting event held in conjunction with the 2019 College Cup.
The introduction of the 2019 adidas MLS College Showcase gives technical staff from every MLS club an opportunity to scout the top collegiate soccer players in the nation, regardless of age. The event sees approximately 40 top college players, ranging from freshmen to seniors, participate in a series of training, testing, interviews and match play, allowing MLS clubs to interact with potential SuperDraft selections earlier in their collegiate career.
Hallahan (Redditch, England) played in 79 career matches for Michigan as a forward and midfielder, scoring 26 goals and tallying 21 assists. Among the program's career leaders, Hallahan ranks second in points (73), third in goals, tied for third in assists and tied for eighth in minutes played (6,269). In 2018, he was a United Soccer Coaches All-American (second team), a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy and Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year. Hallahan is a three-time United Soccer Coaches All-North Region selection and three-time All-Big Ten selection (first team) choice.
The MLS SuperDraft will be held in January. The Wolverines have had 13 MLS SuperDraft selections, including at least one choice in each of the last three years: Lars Eckenrode (2017, fourth round, Toronto FC), Francis Atuahene (2018, first round, FC Dallas), Marcello Borges (2019, second round, Colorado Rapids) and Robbie Mertz (2019, fourth round, Colorado Rapids).
