Malik Amine Earns At-Large Selection to NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- University of Michigan senior/junior Malik Amine earned one of five selections to the 2019 NCAA Wrestling Championships at 149 pounds when the 45 at-large bids were announced Tuesday (March 12). Amine's selection gives the Wolverines eight total NCAA qualifiers.
Amine will return to the NCAA Championships for the second straight season. He carries an 11-9 record with three career wins against the field -- against Arizona State's Josh Maruca this season and Wisconsin's Cole Martin and American's Michael Sprague last year. Amine took eighth place at the Big Ten Championships last weekend (March 9-10). He is ranked No. 25 in the latest coaches ranking.
Joining Amine at the NCAA Championships will be the Wolverines' seven automatic qualifiers, who all placed among their weight classes' allocated qualifying number at the Big Ten Championships last weekend: sophomore Drew Mattin (125 pounds), senior/junior Stevan Micic (133), junior/sophomore Kanen Storr (141), fifth-year senior Alec Pantaleo (157), senior/junior Logan Massa (165), senior/junior Myles Amine (174), and freshman Mason Parris (heavyweight).
Pantaleo is the only four-time NCAA qualifier in the group, while both Storr and Parris are slated to make the NCAA Championships debut.
The NCAA will release seeds and full brackets at 6 p.m. on Wednesday (March 13) as part of a selection show on NCAA.com. The NCAA Championships are slated for Thursday through Saturday, March 21-23, at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
