ROSEMONT, Ill. -- University of Michigan ice hockey sophomore defenseman Quinn Hughes was named to the All-Big Ten Conference first team, leading a group of three Wolverines honored with Big Ten awards as voted by a panel of Big Ten coaches and media, the conference announced Tuesday (March 19).
Junior forward Will Lockwood earned All-Big Ten honorable mention, while sophomore forward Jack Becker was named as a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree.
Hughes led the Wolverines in points with 33 (five goals, 28 assists in 32 games), which is the highest total by any defensemen in the Big Ten and ninth highest in the nation among blueliners. His assists total ranks fifth among defensemen and 11th among all skaters while being third in the Big Ten. Hughes signed an entry-level contract with the NHL's Vancouver Canucks following the conclusion of Michigan's season.
Lockwood came back from an injury-shortened sophomore season to lead the Wolverines with 16 goals to go along with 15 assists for 31 points. He ranked tied for seventh in goals in the Big Ten and tied for 13th in points.
Becker recorded 15 points (six goals, nine assists) while suiting up in all 36 games this season.
Michigan concluded its season with a 13-16-7 record and a 9-10-5-2 mark in conference play.
