ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Big Ten Conference office released its winter 2019 Academic All-Big Ten teams on Wednesday (March 20), with 75 Michigan student-athletes earning recognition for their work in the classroom.
Criteria for making the Academic All-Big Ten team includes being in at least the second academic year at the institution and maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
The breakdown of the 74 Michigan student-athletes on the list is six from men's basketball, three from women's basketball, 11 from men's gymnastics, seven from women's gymnastics, seven from ice hockey, 15 from men's swimming and diving, 16 from women's swimming and diving, and 10 from wrestling.
The conference office also awards Academic All-Big Ten distinction in the fall and spring seasons. U-M had 124 honorees in the fall to give them 198 so far for the school year.
Student-athletes with a GPA of 3.7 or higher for the current academic year, excluding summer school, are eligible for the Distinguished Scholar Award announced this summer.
