ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- A total of eight University of Michigan varsity athletic teams have received Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) Public Recognition Awards from the NCAA, in an announcement made Wednesday (May 1). These eight teams posted multiyear APR scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports.
The Michigan men's basketball program has earned the award in eight consecutive years.
U-M teams receiving Public Recognition Awards covering the four-year period of academic years from 2014-15 to 2017-18 are:
- Baseball
- Men's Basketball
- Women's Cross Country
- Women's Golf
- Men's Gymnastics
- Softball
- Men's Tennis
- Women's Tennis
Women's golf, men's gymnastics and softball have earned recognition honors in five straight seasons, while baseball and women's cross country have garnered honors in three consecutive years and women's tennis in back-to-back years.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport. High-performing teams receiving awards posted APR scores ranging from 807 to a perfect 1,000.
Multiyear APRs for all Division I sports teams, including the teams receiving public recognition, will be announced May 8.
