ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan volleyball head coach Mark Rosen announced the hiring of volunteer assistant coach Jerome Fraisse as assistant coach on Friday (May 24).
Fraisse spent the last 15 months as a volunteer assistant for the Wolverines after coming to the United States from France. He helped the Wolverines post a 24-10 record last season, advancing to the NCAA Regionals in Provo, Utah, where they ended their season with a loss to No. 5 Texas in the round of 16.
"We are really excited to add Jerome full time," said Rosen. "He has a great skill set in terms of his coaching knowledge working with the setters. His personality and view of the game match our staff really well and makes him a great fit for our program."
Working with the setters last season, Fraisse developed practice plans for the setters. He utilized analytics and data metrics technology to help the team prepare and analyze scouting reports and game plans.
He came to Ann Arbor after serving as the head coach of the Grenoble Volley University Club men's team in Grenoble, France for three seasons. Prior to that, he coached five years as an assistant coach with the L'Asul Lyon Volleyball Club. During his time there he founded and directed two programs created to introduce volleyball in local elementary schools.
From 2000-2011, he also coached at Volleyball Romans, L'Arago Sète Volleyball Club and L'ES Meylan Volleyball Club.
Fraisse also has experience working with the French national team programs. He coached tryouts for the boy's U17 national team in 2017 and was an assistant coach on the boy's U20 national team in 2007.
He played professionally for three years in France, starting at both middle blocker and outside hitter for Grenoble Volleyball Club Pro B from 1997-2000.
Fraisse earned his Maitrise (master's level degree) in sports sciences from the Université Joseph Fourier in 1998.
