
Van Ryn Raises Stanley Cup as St. Louis Blues Assistant Coach

BOSTON, Mass. -- University of Michigan ice hockey alum Mike Van Ryn (1997-99) raised the Stanley Cup on Wednesday night (June 12) as assistant coach of the St. Louis Blues, who defeated the Boston Bruins, 4-1, in game seven of the Stanley Cup Final at TD Garden.
Michigan has had 22 Stanley Cup Champions in the program's history and Van Ryn becomes the first coach to hoist the cup.
Van Ryn played two seasons at Michigan, accumulating 14 goals and 27 assists over 75 games. He helped the Wolverines win the 1998 NCAA national championship, which was an NCAA-record ninth in program history.
A first-round selection of the New Jersey Devils in the 1998 NHL Draft, Van Ryn went on to have an eight-year NHL career, with his first three seasons spent in St. Louis. Overall, Van Ryn appeared in 353 career NHL regular-season games, amassing 129 points (30 goals, 99 assists).
