BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- University of Michigan men's basketball guard Jordan Poole was selected by the Golden State Warriors in the first round with the 28th overall pick, while forward Ignas Brazdeikis was chosen in the second round (47th overall) by the Sacramento Kings at the 2019 NBA Draft held Thursday night (June 20) at Barclays Center.
Poole's selection gives U-M a Wolverine selected in the first round for the fourth straight year -- Caris LeVert (No. 20 by Brooklyn, 2016), D.J. Wilson (No. 17 by Milwaukee, 2017) and Moritz Wagner (No. 25 by Los Angeles Lakers, 2018). Since 2013, the Wolverines have had eight first-round picks and 10 total drafted players.
Brazdeikis was selected by Sacramento, but the pick was traded to the New York Knicks. Brazdeikis becomes just the second "one-and-done" at U-M; Jamal Crawford was chosen by the Cleveland Cavaliers and traded to the Chicago Bulls at the 2000 NBA Draft.
Becoming a full-time starter this past season, Poole started all 37 games as a sophomore and doubled his offensive production with 12.8 points per game. Known for "The Shot" against Houston in the 2018 NCAA Tournament, Poole drained a team-best 75 three-pointers this season and finished his career with 115.
He was named an All-Big Ten honorable mention and earned Academic All-Big Ten honors. In his two seasons, Poole helped U-M amass a 63-15 record, reach the 2018 Final Four and national title game, and follow with U-M's third straight trip to the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2019.
Brazdeikis stepped onto campus and immediately made an impact in the U-M lineup, starting all 37 games this past season. He became the first freshman to lead the Wolverines in scoring (14.8 ppg) since Trey Burke (2011-12) and added 5.4 rebounds per game and 56 three-pointers. He was named an honorable mention All-American by the Associated Press, the Big Ten's Freshman of the Year and an All-Big Ten second team as well as earning a spot on the All-Big Ten Freshman Team.
Prior to this year's NBA Draft, U-M had nine players active in the NBA: Burke (Dallas Mavericks), Crawford (Phoenix Suns), Tim Hardaway Jr. (Dallas Mavericks), LeVert (Brooklyn Nets), Duncan Robinson (Miami Heat), Glenn Robinson III (Detroit Pistons), Nik Stauskas (Cleveland Cavaliers), Wagner (Los Angeles Lakers) and Wilson (Milwaukee Bucks).
