ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan wrestling team, in conjunction with the official release of the Big Ten Conference dual-meet slate, announced its 2019-20 schedule on Wednesday (Sept. 4). Start times and television selections will be announced at a later date.
The Wolverines' 2019-20 slate features 13 dual meets and three regular-season tournaments. The Wolverines will wrestle six teams that finished in the top 20 at the NCAA Championships a season ago, including Iowa, Minnesota, Rutgers and Nebraska -- all top-10 NCAA finishers in 2019.
U-M will kick off its dual-meet schedule against North Carolina on Friday, Nov. 8, in Ann Arbor and also will host in-state rival Central Michigan (Nov. 24) and Oregon State (Jan. 5, 2020) before rounding out the non-conference schedule and the dual-meet slate at Edinboro on Feb. 21. The Wolverines will hit the road for three first-semester tournaments, including their first appearance at the Black Knight Invitational, slated for Sunday, Nov. 17, in West Point, New York.
The Wolverines will welcome Michigan State for their Big Ten opener on Friday, Jan. 10, and follow with second-semester conference duals at home against Maryland (Jan. 17), Minnesota (Jan. 19) and Iowa (Feb. 8). U-M will have just four Big Ten home duals this season; its scheduled meet against Rutgers on Feb. 1 is set to be part of the B1G Super Saturday held at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Michigan's road Big Ten duals include Northwestern (Jan. 24), Illinois (Jan. 26), Nebraska (Feb. 16) and Wisconsin (Feb. 16).
Rutgers will host the 2020 Big Ten Championships, March 7-8, at the Rutgers Athletic Center (RAC) in Piscataway, New Jersey, while the NCAA Championships are slated for March 19-21 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Michigan head coach Sean Bormet guided the Wolverines to a 13-1 dual-meet record in his first season at the helm in 2018-19 which was highlighted by a dramatic 19-17 road win at No. 2 Ohio State to finish third in the final Big Ten dual-meet standings before wrapping the season with a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships -- U-M's second straight top-five NCAA finish. The Wolverines return six NCAA qualifiers, including All-Americans Stevan Micic (133 pounds), Logan Massa (165) and Myles Amine (174).
