Three Men Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- A program-record-tying three members of the University of Michigan men's cross country team earned U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I All-Academic honors and the Wolverines were honored as a team for the sixth straight year.
All-American Devin Meyrer, top-50 national finisher Isaac Harding and top-100 finisher Jordy Hewitt all earned the academic distinction while simultaneously leading the Wolverines to their best NCAA Championships team finish in two decades with a seventh-place showing.
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at its respective NCAA regional championship.
The Wolverines -- led by head coach Kevin Sullivan -- met that standard for the eighth time in the last nine seasons, combining for a team GPA of 3.17.
Meyrer, a redshirt junior studying biopsychology, cognition & neuroscience, turned in one of the best NCAA Championships showings in school history in a 16th-place run at nationals. He preceded that effort with an 11th-place finish at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional for All-Region honors and a second team All-Big Ten award with a ninth-place finish at the conference meet.
Harding, a redshirt junior studying movement science, just missed All-America plaudits with a 44th-place finish at the national meet. He was Michigan's top finisher at regionals with an All-Region ninth-place effort and narrowly missed second team All-Big Ten with a 16th-place finish at the conference meet.
Hewitt, a redshirt senior with dual economics and international studies majors, closed out his Michigan career with a 96th-place finish at the national championships. He earned All-Region honors with an 18th-place result at the regional meet and took 22nd at the Big Ten Championships.
To qualify for the All-Academic award, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or better and have either earned USTFCCCA All-America status or finished in the NCAA region's top 25 (or top 10 percent) in 2016.
Michigan's trio was among 117 male student-athletes from institutions across the country who earned the award.
