CHICAGO, Ill. -- University of Michigan graduated senior linebacker Jordan Glasgow (Aurora, Ill./Marmion Academy) and senior women's gymnast Lexi Funk (Aurora, Ill./Oswego East) were named winners of the 2020 Ernest T. Sigler Award by the University of Michigan Club of Greater Detroit on Wednesday (Oct. 14) during a virtual event.
The Award is presented annually to U-M's best male and female student-athletes from the Chicago area and has been given since 1977.
Glasgow is the 30th student-athlete from the football program to receive this award and the first since running back Ty Isaac in 2017. At Michigan, Glasgow earned a degree in Business Administration from the Stephen M. Ross School of Business before earning his real estate development certificate from the Rachkham Graduate School in 2019. Glasgow was a four-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District 5 honoree. On the field, Glasgow was a forceful presence and a reliable special-teams contributor. In 2019, he started 13 games at "Will" linebacker, making 89 tackles with seven for loss, five sacks breakups, two pass breakups, one fumble and one blocked kick. Glasgow began his career at Michigan as a walk-on and finished as a starter and impactful scholarship player. He ended his career with 140 tackles, 10.0 for loss, seven sacks, three passes defended, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. He was the team's Roger Zatkoff Linebacker of the Year and its Blue Collar Award Winner, and was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft (213th overall). Jordan also is the second Glasgow to win the award, as his brother, Graham, was honored in 2016.
Funk is the fourth women's gymnast to receive the Sigler Award, joining Olivia Karas (2018), Katie Zurales (2013) and Katie Lieberman (2006). Funk is on schedule to graduate this fall with degrees in Communication and Media and Spanish. As a gymnast, Funk was a two-year captain for the Wolverines and was a second team All-American on balance beam in 2019. A three-time All-Big Ten selection, she received the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award in 2020. She excelled in the classroom as a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree. She helped lead U-M to three Big Ten Championships and four Big Ten regular-season titles.
The award is named after Ernest T. Sigler, who served as the executive director of the U-M Club of Greater Chicago for 35 years.
