ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Freshman Hunter Dickinson scored 18 points off the bench and senior Isaiah Livers added 16 to lead the University of Michigan men's basketball team to a 91-71 win over Toledo on Wednesday night (Dec. 9) at Crisler Center.
The Wolverines (5-0) shot an impressive 57.6 percent (34-for-59) and 56.3 percent (9-for-16) from beyond the arc, while keeping Toledo (3-3) to just 40.6 percent (26-for-64) shooting from the floor.
Dickinson continued to be a force off the bench, adding a team-leading seven rebounds on the night. Livers chipped in three three-pointers, two steals, one block and one assist.
Sophomore Franz Wagner was a perfect 2-for-2 from the three-point line and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line, ending the day with 14 points. Eli Brooks and Austin Davis each scored 12 points. For Davis, his point total was a career best.
Graduate student Mike Smith added seven points and dished out a team-best seven assists, while Wagner had four helpers.
Davis scored the first 10 points of the game for Michigan before Livers rattled off back-to-back baskets to put the Wolverines up, 15-9, with just over 14 minutes to play in the opening half.
Michigan used a 7-0 run to take a 27-19 lead into the under-eight-minute media break in the first half.
The Wolverine defense put the Rockets on a 4:30 scoring drought and forced four turnovers to aid a 17-2 run as U-M took a 19-point lead, 40-21, with two minutes left to play in the half.
U-M hit its final three shots of the half and took an 44-26 lead into the halftime break behind 11 points from Livers and 10 from Davis.
Early in the second half, Michigan went on an 8-0 run, capped off by back-to-back three-pointers before Wagner drained the U-M's third straight triple to give it a 20-point edge, 58-38, with under 15 minutes to play.
The Wolverines offense continued to roll with dunks from Brooks and Chaundee Brown Jr. with 10 minutes remaining to give them a 74-48 advantage.
The Wolverines maintained a sizeable lead over the last 10 minutes of the game and rolled to victory.
Michigan will open Big Ten Conference play Sunday (Dec. 13) when it welcomes Penn State to Crisler Center. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m., and the game will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
