COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The No. 4-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team trailed heading into the final rotation, but marked the NCAA's top high bar score to defeat No. 9 Ohio State, 409.600-408.500, on Saturday (Feb. 1) at Covelli Arena.
Michigan was led by junior Cameron Bock who won still rings and parallel bars, while freshman Paul Juda won the all-around competition.
The Wolverines (6-0, 1-0 Big Ten) began the afternoon on pommel horse scoring a 66.200. U-M was led by senior Uche Eke with a 13.80. Ohio State (1-3, 0-2 Big Ten) marked a 70.800 on floor exercise, and U-M trailed by 4.6 points going into the second rotation.
On floor exercise, U-M's Alan Gerdov led the Wolverines with a career-best 14.200 on the exercise. Michigan totaled a 68.200 on floor to trim its deficit to 1.200 points going to vault in the third rotation.
In the third, U-M took the lead for the first time on the afternoon, scoring a 71.000 on vault to the Buckeyes' 67.800 on still rings. Moving into the fourth rotation, the Wolverines took a 2.100-point lead. Junior Nick Guy paced Michigan with a career-best 14.800 to take home the his third career vault title.
Ohio State regained the lead after a 71.650 on vault, while the Wolverines totaled a 67.900 on still rings. Bock scored a 14.550 for the event title, but U-M trailed once again by a 1.650-point margin heading into high bar in the fifth rotation.
U-M excelled on high bar with a nation-best 69.350, led by Juda and junior Jonathan Liu sharing the event title with a 14.100. Ohio State countered with a 65.650 on parallel bars, but Michigan regained the lead for good by a margin of 2.050 points going into the sixth and final rotation.
In the final rotation, Bock sealed the meet in the anchor position with a 13.800 on parallel bars, and Michigan collected a 66.850 to seal the victory.
Juda, the lone competitor in the meet's all-around competition, scored a 79.150 for the first all-around title of his career.

Michigan will begin its 2020 home schedule on Saturday (Feb. 8) when it welcomes Illinois-Chicago and Northern Illinois to Cliff Keen Arena for a tri-meet at 1 p.m.
