
Juda, Mikulak Earn National Team Spot as Winter Cup Concludes

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Freshman Paul Juda of the University of Michigan men's gymnastics team and alumnus Sam Mikulak secured spots on the United States Senior National team for their outstanding performances on Saturday (Feb. 22) at the USA Gymnastics-sanctioned Winter Cup Challenge at the Westgate Resort & Casino.
The national team was selected following the competition, with the top six all-around athletes automatically qualifying for the team. Juda was one of 12 gymnasts named to the team and is one of four current NCAA gymnasts on the squad.
Juda placed eighth in the all-around competition (81.650) on Thursday (Feb. 20) in session II of the competition. He followed up with third-place finish on high bar, marking a two-day score of 27.500. He also tied for fifth on floor exercise (28.100) and placed eighth on still rings (26.950).
Mikulak won the all-around with a mark of 86.800. He also placed in the top three on four events, winning parallel bars (29.400), finishing second on high bar (27.550) and floor exercise (28.800), and earning third place on pommel horse (28.850).
Junior Cameron Bock placed 13th in the all-around competition on Thursday with a score of 81.250. He placed third on floor exercise (28.500) and was sixth on still rings with a 27.950.
Former Wolverine Adrian de los Angeles placed fourth on floor exercise with a score of 28.250, his top event score of the competition.
With the elite meet concluded, U-M will return to team competition next Saturday (Feb. 29), when it hosts Minnesota at 1 p.m. at Cliff Keen Arena. The meet also will kick off the second half of NCAA men's gymnastics, with competition moving to a five-up, five-count scoring system.
