ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan volleyball program and head coach Mark Rosen announced Wednesday (April 22) that Hannah Grant and Brooke Humphrey will join the Wolverines for the 2020-21 academic year.
"We are so excited to announce the addition of Brooke and Hannah to the Michigan volleyball program in 2020," said Rosen. "Both are very accomplished student-athletes who will make a great impact on our program over the next four years."
Hannah Grant
Grant comes to Ann Arbor after spending her freshman season as a redshirt at Michigan State. The four-year varsity letterwinner from Northville High School in Northville, Michigan, was a four-time All-State Academic award selection and a two-time All-State honoree. The libero also was named All-Kensington Lakes Activities Association (KLAA), All-Area, All-Region and All-KLAA Tournament team twice, and helped the Mustangs to a MHSAA semifinal appearance in 2018. She was a four-year starter for Northville and played club for Team Detroit (2015-16) and Legacy (2017-18). Grant was the starting libero for three top-10 nationally ranked Open Division teams -- Legacy 18 Elite, Team Detroit (16-1) and Team Detroit (15-1). Grant is the daughter of Steve and Andrea Grant.
"Hannah is a student-athlete we have watched play for a very long time," said Rosen. "She played club volleyball with a number of our current team members on both Team Detroit and Legacy Volleyball clubs. Over the years we have admired her skills as a libero and when she made the decision to transfer after the fall season, we knew she would be a great fit for our program. She will be a huge contributor in elevating our level in serve receive and defense as well as our programs overall competitive level. She is used to winning at the highest level and we look forward to her bringing that competitive nature to the Michigan program.
Brooke Humphrey
Humphrey joins the Wolverines as another defensive option after playing her high school career as both an outside hitter and defensive specialist. The Lafayette, Indiana, native had a highly-decorated prep career at McCutcheon High School, highlighted by an AVCA/Under Armour All-America honorable mention nod her senior year. She was the Lafayette Journal and Courier Big School Player of the Year three times (2016, 2018, 2019) and first team all four years of her career, and earned first team All-North Central Conference honors all four years. Humphrey also was an All-District North Central team and All-State first team member as a senior.
"Brooke will be making the transition from being an outside hitter in high school and club volleyball to the libero position at Michigan," said Rosen. "She has tremendous ball control, both as a passer and a defender, which will fit in great to our program. Brooke is a fierce competitor which was recognized this past high school season as she was selected as an AVCA/Under Armour High School All-American."
Grant and Humphrey join a class that also includes Scottee Johnson, Jenni Liu, Jess Mruzik and Kendall Murray, all who signed in November.
