ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- A total of eight University of Michigan varsity athletic teams have received Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) Public Recognition Awards from the NCAA, in an announcement made Tuesday (May 12). These eight teams posted multiyear APR scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports.
The Wolverines men's basketball program has earned the award in nine consecutive years, and Michigan is one of just two Big Ten Conference schools that earned awards in both men's and women's basketball this year.
U-M teams receiving Public Recognition Awards covering the four-year period of academic years from 2015-16 to 2018-19 are:
- Baseball
- Men's Basketball
- Women's Basketball
- Women's Golf
- Men's Lacrosse
- Softball
- Men's Swimming and Diving
- Women's Tennis
Women's golf and softball have earned recognition honors in six straight seasons, while baseball has garnered honors in four consecutive years and women's tennis in three straight years.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport. High-performing teams receiving awards posted APR scores ranging from 987 to a perfect 1,000.
Multiyear APRs for all Division I sports teams, including the teams receiving public recognition, will be announced May 20.
