NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- University of Michigan senior offensive lineman Andrew Stueber was recognized by the Walter Camp Football Foundation as the 2020 Connecticut Player of the Year.
The award is presented to the top college football player who is a resident and/or played scholastically in the state of Connecticut and is voted on by the Walter Camp Football Foundation membership. Stueber is the first Michigan player to win the award.
An honorable mention on the 2020 All-Big Ten offense team, Stueber led an offensive line that paved the way for a strong run game last season. Running back Hassan Haskins averaged more than six yards per carry running behind Stueber, reaching 100 yards in each of the final two games.
Stueber has been a veteran voice for the Wolverines, providing stability and leadership in the huddle. He overcame an ACL injury suffered in 2019 training camp to return to action in 2020, beginning the year at right guard before kicking out to tackle for the final four games.
According to Pro Football Focus College, Stueber did not take any penalties and surrendered just one sack among four total pressures all season. He was awarded a pass-blocking efficiency grade of 98.3, among the highest scores in the Big Ten.
A native of Darien, Conn., Stueber played at Darien High School and under coach Rob Trifone, he helped lead Darien to two Class LL State Championship appearances in 2015-16.
