Buca Scores Fifth Goal, but U-M Falls on Late OSU Tally in Regular-Season Finale

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The University of Michigan men's soccer team fell 2-1 at Ohio State on Tuesday night (Oct. 26) at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium to close out its regular-season schedule.
The Buckeyes used a late header off a corner to seal the victory over the Wolverines.
Senior Kevin Buca scored U-M's lone goal, his fifth of the season, to move his point total to 12, while Derick Broche tallied the assist. Michigan (7-6-3, 4-3-1 Big Ten) had 12 shots with five on frame.
Ohio State (6-8-1, 2-5-0 Big Ten) set up an advantage over the Wolverines as a pass into the 18-yard box and a one-timer into the bottom-third of the net sneaked past Hayden Evans in the 18th minute of the match.

Michigan responded in the 33rd minute. Buca won the ball at midfield and passed it up to Broche, who took the ball down the right side of the field before firing it toward the net. Buca got the heel of his foot on the ball and guided it into the back of the net to knot the score at 1.
The Wolverines took their offense up a notch after the Buca goal. Broche fired two shots, and Marc Ybarra and Inaki Rodriguez had one each to close out the half. U-M went into the halftime break tied at 1, taking 10 shots, while Ohio State took six.
Junior Brennan Callow tried to give Michigan the go-ahead goal in the 72nd minute with a shot on goal, but it was picked up by the Buckeye keeper to keep the match knotted at 1.
The second half proved fairly uneventful for both teams until Ohio State earned a corner in the 89th minute and was able to capitalize on the opportunity for the game-winning goal.
The Wolverines will find out their seeding for the upcoming Big Ten Tournament, with the quarterfinal rounds set to start Sunday, Nov. 7.
