Big Ten Athlete of the Week -- Graduate student Chiara Lommer was named the Big Ten Tennis Athlete of the Week after helping Michigan to another 2-0 weekend and a win over a top-10 ranked team. Lommer went 2-0 at the No. 2 singles spot and combined with Jaedan Brown for a 2-0 mark at the No. 1 doubles slot. Lommer's singles weekend was highlighted by a 6-4, 6-3 win over No. 57 Julie Byrne of Northwestern (March 7), as U-M grabbed a 5-2 win over the No. 8-ranked Wildcats. She also recorded a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Kate Duong of Illinois (March 6) as U-M earned a 4-0 shutout of the Illini. Lommer and Brown got a 7-5 win over Asuka Kawai and Josie Frazier of Illinois before combining for a 6-4 win over No. 47-ranked Byrne and Hannah McColgan of NU. » Big Ten Release
Kari Miller (March 2)
Big Ten Athlete of the Week -- Freshman Kari Miller was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Week after helping Michigan to a pair of weekend wins to keep its six-match win streak alive. Miller went 2-0 at the top singles spot and 1-1 at No. 3 doubles in wins at Penn State (Feb. 26) and No. 8 Ohio State (Feb. 28). Miller's weekend was highlighted by a three-set win over OSU's No. 78-ranked Irina Cantos Siemers to clinch the U-M win. Miller rallied from dropping the first set, eventually winning in a third-set tiebreaker for a 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (2) victory. She started the weekend with a 6-2, 6-4 win over PSU's Gabby O'Gorman at the top spot, while winning at No. 3 doubles with Gala Mesochoritou. » Big Ten Release
