Pair of All-Big Ten First Teamers Among Michigan's Conference Honorees

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team had six Wolverines earn Big Ten honors, the conference announced Wednesday (April 14).
Seniors Nicki Hernandez and Alia Martin highlight the group as the pair earned All-Big Ten first team honors, the second for Martin and first for Hernandez as the forward was named third team in 2019. Senior Sarah Stratigakis and junior Raleigh Loughman earned second team honors, while senior Hillary Beall was named to the All-Big Ten third team and Sammi Woods garnered All-Freshman team honors.
The six honorees tie for the second-most in program history with 2012 squad, two behind the eight honorees in the 2019 season.
Hernandez earns her second All-Big Ten honor after being named to the third team in 2019. The senior forward led the Wolverines with 14 points, which included a team-high six goals along with two assists. She scored two game-winners and had two multi-point games, including scoring five points against Michigan State and netting both goals against Minnesota for the Maize and Blue.
Martin anchored the backline for U-M for the second straight season and earned her second first-team All-Big Ten honor. The senior defender helped the Wolverines to three shutout victories and logged a team-high 1,061 minutes on the pitch.
After missing the first two games of the season due to international competition with Canada, Stratigakis earned her fourth straight All-Big Ten honor and third second-team honor of her career. The senior midfielder scored one goal and added three assists in the shortened season for the Wolverines, with her one goal being the game-winner at Maryland.
Loughman earns her second straight second-team All-Big Ten nod, starting all 11 games for Michigan in the holding midfield spot. The junior midfielder was the playmaker for the Maize and Blue at midfield and added two assists off corner kicks while logging 920 minutes on the field.
Beall was named third team for the second straight season after starting all 11 games between the pipes for U-M. The senior goalkeeper had four shutouts and made 52 saves to rank second in the Big Ten.
Woods appeared in all 11 games and made one start in her first season as a Wolverines. The freshman forward was one of just two players to notch double-digit points with 11, scoring four goals and adding three assists. Woods had back-to-back multi-point performances with a goal and an assist against Michigan State before scoring two goals and adding one assist for a five-point match at Maryland.
In addition, junior Janiece Joyner was recognized by the conference as U-M's Big Ten Sportsmanship honoree. Joyner played in nine matches with seven starts on defense for the Maize and Blue, logging 716 minutes.
