
University of Michigan Roster for 2020 Tokyo Olympics

Thirty-one athletes with ties to the University of Michigan will compete in the Summer Olympics in Toyko, Japan. The list features six individuals who competed for the Wolverines in 2020-21: Myles Amine (wrestling), Patrick Callan (men's swimming), Maggie MacNeil (women's swimming), Jake Mitchell (men's swimming), Jayde Riviere (women's soccer) and Mariella Venter (women's swimming).
The 30 athletes represent 14 Olympic teams: United States (10), Canada (4), Australia (2), Great Britain (2), Hong Kong (2), Nigeria (2), Austria (1), Belgium (1), Germany (1), Israel (1), New Zealand (1), San Marino (1), Serbia (1), South Africa (1) and Yemen (1).
Also on official delegations as coaches in Tokyo will be four current Wolverine coaches -- wrestling coach Sean Bormet, diving coach Mike Hilde, swimming coach Mike Bottom, men's gymnastics assistant Yuan Xiao -- along with former Wolverines Jeff Porter (two-time track Olympian) and Eddie Umphrey (gymnastics) and four former U-M mentors. Staff member Emily Klueh, a U-M former women's swimmer, is on the USOPC medical staff as a mental health officer, and two former Wolverines are listed as replacement athletes or alternates.
The Paralympics at the end of August will see former U-M swimmer Andy Potts compete as the guide for blind USA paratriathlete Kyle Coon. Potts was a 2004 Olympian in the triathlon. In addition, first-year U-M medical school student Sam Grewe will compete in the men's high jump T63. Grewe, a 2021 Notre Dame graduate who was on the Fighting Irish track and field team, won a silver medal in the high jump T42 at the 2016 Paralympics in Brazil.
