
Michigan Ice Hockey Selects 2021-22 Captains

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan ice hockey program has selected its captains for the 2021-22 season. Senior Nick Blankenburg will captain the squad, a year after being an alternate. Seniors Jimmy Lambert, Nolan Moyle, Mike Pastujov and sophomore Matty Beniers will serve as alternate captains.
An honorable mention All-Big Ten selection the last two seasons, Blankenburg was third in the league in on-ice rating, and 10th nationally with a +19. He ranked sixth in the league in defenseman scoring with 13 points on five goals and eight assists.
Lambert heads into the season with 33 career points, scoring seven goals and 26 assists, and Pastujov returns for this fifth season with 46 points. Both were alternate captains a season ago. Newly minted alternate Moyle has 14 career goals and 10 assists.
The second overall selection in the 2021 NHL Draft, Beniers competed for Team USA in both the World Junior Championship and World Championships winning gold and bronze medals. Named to the College Hockey News All-Rookie team and capturing the Michigan Athletics Department Rookie of the Year honor, Beniers was fourth in the nation in points per game, averaging 1.00 ppg. He led the conference in on-ice rating with a +21 and was an honorable mention all-Big Ten selection as well as a member of the All-Freshman Team.
Michigan is set to host Bowling Green in an exhibition game on Saturday, Oct. 2, and will open the regular season at Yost Ice Arena against Lake Superior State on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 8-9. Single-game tickets and ticket packs are on sale now.
