ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan Donald R. Shepherd Director of Athletics Warde Manuel announced Tuesday (Sept. 21) a contract extension through the 2025 season for women's soccer head coach Jennifer Klein.
"Our nationally-ranked women's soccer team has continued to progress as a direct result of Jennifer and her staff's efforts, and I am delighted to finalize her extension," said Manuel. "I look forward to Jennifer's continued leadership well into the future."
"I am very honored and humbled for the continued opportunity to lead the Michigan women's soccer program and to be part of our outstanding athletic department," said Klein. "I want to thank Warde Manuel and Lisa Savoury for their continued support and belief in myself and my staff. I am so proud of this program and the work that we have done, and I look forward to what we will be able to accomplish in the future."
In her fourth season in charge, Klein boasts a record of 38-19-6 (.651) during her time in Ann Arbor. Her tenure has been highlighted by a run to the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2019 and a Big Ten regular-season runner-up finish in that same season.
She owns a 2-2 record in the Big Ten Tournament and is 2-1 in NCAA Tournament play. Five players have earned NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region honors, including Sarah Stratigakis, who earned second-team All-America honors in 2019 per the United Soccer Coaches. In addition, eight players have earned All-Big Ten honors, while three Wolverines have earned All-Freshman Team honors.
After a 9-9-1 record in her first campaign, U-M went 17-6-1 overall (8-2-1 Big Ten) in the 2019 season. Following a 5-3-3 record in last season's conference-only COVID-19-shortened schedule, U-M is off to one of the best starts in program history with a 7-1-1 record through nine matches.
