ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan baseball team and head coach Erik Bakich announced the additions of Hunter Satterthwaite '20 and Mac Lozer '17 to the program's staff Thursday (Sept. 23).

Satterthwaite
The additions further position Michigan among the most innovative player-development models in college baseball as Satterthwaite joins the program as director of baseball operations and data analytics while Lozer serves as program assistant in a newly-created position.
"I am thrilled to round out our staff with two incredibly talented and dedicated individuals in Hunter and Mac," said Bakich. "Both of them have developed within our program and gained valuable experiences that will improve our teams."
Satterthwaite's return to his alma mater comes on the heels of the retirement of Wayne R. Welton, who advanced the program significantly during his nine years as the director of operations and 10 years overall with the program.
As a U-M student, Satterthwaite worked closely with Welton in all facets of the program, eventually leading a team of student analysts charged with recording, tracking, interpreting and reporting Trackman and other data sources via Python, R and SQL programming languages.
"I am incredibly honored and excited for this opportunity from Coach Bakich to rejoin this program and help Michigan baseball in its pursuit of championships," said Satterthwaite.
Satterthwaite graduated from Michigan in 2020 with a bachelor's degree in data science and earned an additional year of experience in data analytics at HF Software Solutions.

Lozer
Lozer returns to Michigan as program assistant after graduating in 2017 with a degree in liberal arts and sciences. An All-Big Ten pitcher who ranks among U-M's all-time leaders with 100 pitching appearances and a 2.21 career earned-run average, Lozer was selected by the New York Mets in the 33rd Round of the 2017 MLB Draft. He played in the Mets organization for two seasons before advancing to player development and coaching roles in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization.
While at U-M, Lozer was active across the athletic department and campus, serving on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, the SAAC's annual Mock Rock fundraiser, and volunteering with the Chad Tough Foundation and Ann Arbor VA Hospital.
"I am incredibly excited to return to Ann Arbor and join Michigan baseball's staff," said Lozer. "Following four years removed from being a student-athlete under Coach Bakich, I'm familiar with the invaluable experience of developing as a human and baseball player under his leadership.
"I'm fired up for the present and future classes of Michigan baseball players."
Michigan baseball enters the 2022 season coming off another strong campaign during which it resided in various top-25 polls throughout the season and advanced to NCAA Tournament play.
